NeighborHealth Center was honored to host Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC District 2) along with Brendan Riley (VP, Government Relations and External Affairs with North Carolina Community Health Center Association) for a visit earlier in March.

Our leadership team met with Congresswoman Ross, who then toured our Clinic with CEO Daniel Lipparelli and COO Emily Watkins.

During the visit, we discussed NeighborHealth’s mission, accomplishments, and challenges. Congresswoman Ross will take this feedback to Washington to help advocate for more funding and awareness around the high impact work we do in our community. We are grateful for their shared commitment to serving Wake County neighbors with excellent, compassionate, and accessible health care

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most common cause of cancer death in the United States when men and women are combined. Fortunately, many cancer cases can be avoided with regular CRC screening.

Did you know? Colorectal screening rates is a closely-tracked “quality measure” by our team at NeighborHealth Center. The patients we serve are at a higher risk for colorectal cancer than the general population. Last year, we improved our screening rate by more than 5%, and we will look to continue that trend in 2024!

Cancer screening and early detection can save lives. Colorectal cancer is a silent disease – usually, there are no symptoms. That’s why getting screened is so important. It can help prevent colorectal cancer or catch it early when it is easiest to treat.

NHC is working proactively to get our patients screened for CRC, patients who might otherwise have limited access to the high-quality health care we provide. This preventive care is saving lives. NeighborHealth Center is proud to partner with the American Cancer Society to raise awareness about this important initiative.

Do you have language skills? NeighborHealth Center is looking for volunteers to help with our interpretation program.

Did you know? 46% of NeighborHealth’s patients in 2023 preferred to be served in a language other than English! In order to serve these patients with high-quality care, NeighborHealth invests in a full-service interpretation program.

If you are able to volunteer, please fill out the form here to let us know you’re interested. No previous interpretation or medical experience is necessary. A NeighborHealth team member will be in touch to follow up. Thanks for supporting our work in so many ways.

The 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) in Wake County identified behavioral health access as a top concern for local residents. According to the report, 39.5% of respondents feel there are not enough mental health providers in the community.

As a part of NeighborHealth’s focus on patient-centered medical care, and in response to this community need, we have three Behavior Health providers on staff. This is a unique feature of our clinic. We aim to serve our patients as well as confront the ongoing stigma around mental health. We provide more than 2,000 Behavior Health patient visits annually.

Faith Partner Highlight: Celebration Church!

NeighborHealth team members George Derbyshire and Kayla Piper recently had the opportunity to connect with Ted Scheve (Associate Pastor) and Susan Lee (Pastoral Care Director) at Celebration Church. NeighborHealth received a donation of items that will be added to our hygiene bags for patients, supplies for our OB patients as, well as snacks for the NeighborHealth staff. We are so grateful for this tangible show of support, and we look forward to continuing to build this partnership with Celebration Church.

“My boyfriend and I have been seeing Dr. Betsy Joyner for primary care for over 3 years and she has always made us both feel like we can talk to her as much as we need to in order to explain what’s going on with our health. She seems to always take our previous history and pricing into consideration when deciding how to proceed with referrals and such. Plus the wait time is always very short compared to any other healthcare provider I’ve ever been to (including dental & vision)!”

—Chelsea R., NeighborHealth Patient

We always welcome your prayers! We share this prayer to support and strengthen our incredible providers who are serving our neighbors each day.

Sanctify, O Lord, those whom you have called to the study and practice of the arts of healing, and to the prevention of disease and pain. Strengthen them by your life-giving Spirit, that by their ministries the health of the community may be promoted and your creation glorified; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
