NeighborHealth Center is committed to language accessibility. Last year, 45% of our patients preferred to be served in a language other than English. Nationally, few clinics like NeighborHealth serve as many immigrants and refugees as we do. Our mission is to provide our patients with excellent, compassionate, and accessible healthcare. Carmela’s story illustrates our ongoing investment in this work.

Carmela and her daughter came to the United States from South America to seek asylum from persecution and continued violence. Unfamiliar with our healthcare system and our language, Carmela arrived at NeighborHealth Center in extremely poor health and in desperate need of medical care.

She was uninsured and battling many serious healthcare conditions, including cardiac arrhythmia, a blood disorder, and hepatitis. With such a complex medical history, having a primary care home and an on-site interpreter has been life-changing for Carmela. She also sees one of our behavioral health counselors to address trauma she experienced in South America, highlighting NeighborHealth’s commitment to whole-patient care.

“Carmela is so much healthier and happier than she was when she came to NeighborHealth in early
2023. It’s been remarkable to see her physical and mental health improve.”

— Betsy Joyner, PA-C, Director of Clinical Services.

Your gift today can go twice as far to support language accessibility for uninsured patients like Carmela. Any gift up to $30,000 can be matched as a part of our spring campaign! Thank you for supporting our life-changing work here in Raleigh.

Sincerely,

Daniel Lipparelli, CEO
