The ‘Why’ Behind Giving

“It Was the First Light I’d Seen During the Dark Year of Lockdown”

NeighborHealth is incredibly blessed to have a group of committed supporters who offer their time, talent, and treasure to support our important mission of offering good health to close to 8,000 men, women and children each year. Denise Kilfoil is one of those supporters who became one of our earliest recurring donors during the dark days of COVID-19.

Denise has always had a heart for giving – it’s a core value her family instilled in her from a young age when she grew up in a small town where people looked out for one another.

In 2020, Denise stumbled upon NeighborHealth Center (NHC) at the height of the pandemic while in need of a COVID-19 vaccine. A neighbor told her that NeighborHealth was offering vaccines at The Summit Church in Raleigh, but she was unsure if they were available for the general population, so she made a phone call. “They kindly assured me that the vaccines were offered to anyone who needed them,” Denise explains. “When I arrived at the pop-up clinic, I was instantly impressed – it was the first light I’d seen during the dark year of lockdown. People were bustling around with such positive energy and amazing efficiency, taking care of one another in our community. I could tell immediately that NeighborHealth is a very special organization. I went home and sent them a check in gratitude for my vaccine and when I received my second dose, I did the same thing.”

Since that day, Denise has been a loyal NeighborHealth donor and friend. She has toured the new NeighborHealth clinic and witnessed the care we provide firsthand. “Walking around, you see smiles and kindness, people helping neighbors – and it’s remarkable to hear how many languages are being spoken and to observe the diverse cultures being served. Now I make a donation every month. It’s good to know that it’s being put to such good use right here in our community. “

When asked why she gives, Denise’s response is simple. “I’ve always felt that when you’re blessed in life, it’s so important to share those blessings with those who are in need.” Lastly, she summarizes her ‘Why’ when she explains, “It’s very important that we be involved in our community. Life for all of us is made better when we work together and help each other along.”

We are so grateful for Denise and all the generous donors who make our work possible at NeighborHealth Center. On behalf of our patients, our community, and our team – THANK YOU!

Making a Year-End Gift

Please consider joining Denise as a NeighborHealth Center Partner in Health by setting up a recurring monthly donation. It’s a gift that allows us to consistently provide the gift of good health to almost 8,000 patients each year.

Here are just a few ways your monthly support can impact the lives of our uninsured patients —

  • $10 will provide a fluoride treatment for 10 children
  • $20 will provide two A1C tests for diabetes
  • $50 will provide a PAP test
  • $80 will provide 10 flu tests
  • $100 monthly will cover the cost of providing primary health care for an uninsured child for the year

Your tax-deductible gift will provide the opportunity for NeighborHealth to continue to change lives through affordable, life-changing healthcare.  Thanks to the generosity of two donors, gifts made by December 31st can be matched dollar-for-dollar…doubling the impact!
