Benjamin and Betsy spent 14 years serving as missionaries in Turkey, where they raised their three children. But as Betsy faced increasingly serious health challenges, the family returned to the United States seeking answers. After years of appointments with specialists around the world, countless medications and little relief, Betsy had lost confidence in the healthcare system—and with no insurance, she wasn’t sure where to turn.

A friend from church suggested NeighborHealth Center.

At her first appointment, Dr. Matt Oettinger spent nearly an hour listening to Betsy’s story, reviewing her medical history and helping her understand a path forward. For the first time in years, she felt heard and seen.

“Dr. Matt has the hands of a doctor and the heart of a pastor,” Benjamin says. “Instead of making medical guesses, he took the time to understand what was really going on.” The couple says that experience began to restore some things they thought they had lost—hope for good health and faith in the medical community.

With compassionate, coordinated care, Betsy’s health began to improve. Her treatment plan was adjusted, her sleep restored, and behavioral health support helped her regain strength physically, mentally, and spiritually.

“She’s gaining weight again, sleeping through the night and managing her medications without side effects,” Benjamin shares. “But most importantly, I see the priceless gift of her joy returning.”

Today, the couple has private insurance, yet they continue to receive their care at NeighborHealth Center.

“Why would we go anywhere else?” Benjamin says. “This is our family doctor—someone who is invested in our health. NeighborHealth feels like home.”
